About the Geographic Information and Mapping Department

Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District has collected, updated, and created a wide variety of geographic data sets. Utilizing an in-house Geographic Information System (GIS), the District is able to provide mapping and data solutions for planning project support, local governments and client requests. Daily operations include ongoing project work, data collection/editing, production of maps by request, and communication with other state and local professionals involved with work in the GIS community.

The GIS department of Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District creates custom maps on a daily basis for many local and regional clients at an affordable cost. These services include the creation of customized maps and documentation of relevant spatial information relating to specific geographic areas. Pricing for these services are as follows:

Technical project work:

$50.00 per hour

Printed Maps:
  • 8.5" x 11" - $2.50
  • 11" x 17" - $5.00
  • 24" x 36" - $25.00
  • 36" x 48" - $35.00
  • 54" x 72" - $50.00
Digital Media:
  • CD creation - $5.00

US Census Data Center

SMPDD is listed as one of three US Census Bureau State Data Centers for Mississippi.  Census related demographic data are available by request.  The mission of the State Data Center program is to provide efficient access to U.S. Census Bureau data and data products, provide training and technical assistance to data users, and provide a mechanism for feedback to the Census Bureau on data usability, state and local government data needs, and operational issues.
