Cartographic Services

The GIS department of Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District creates custom maps on a daily basis for many local and regional clients at an affordable cost. These services include the creation of customized maps and documentation of relevant spatial information relating to specific geographic areas. Please call to schedule an appointment for these services.

US Census Data Center

SMPDD is listed as one of three US Census Bureau State Data Centers for Mississippi.  Census related demographic data are available by request.  The mission of the State Data Center program is to provide efficient access to U.S. Census Bureau data and data products, provide training and technical assistance to data users, and provide a mechanism for feedback to the Census Bureau on data usability, state and local government data needs, and operational issues.

Harrison County Zoning

The District provides zoning case and parcel update services for Harrison County, MS.  Current printed zoning maps are available from SMPDD by request for a fee as shown in our pricing list.

Wayne County E911

In the early summer of 2006 SMPDD completed the active updateable E911 street centerline for Wayne County, MS.  In June of 2006, this street centerline was installed on the E911 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system in Waynesboro and is currently being used by dispatch personnel to verify the locations of incoming emergency callers.

Lamar County Community Wildfire Protection Plan

Planning support was provided for the Lamar County Wildfire Protection Plan in 2005.  Data collection, creation and management facilitated the production of the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) and all maps required for the project.

Political Redistricting

The District provides redistricting services and map production for several cities and counties within its jurisdiction.  Redistricting is the changing of political boundaries in response to the decennial census results. This takes place by law to maintain a geographic form of proportional representation.
