Since our beginning in 1967, Southern Mississippi Planning & Development District (SMPDD) has provided information, resources, and funding needed for private and public sector leaders in Southern Mississippi. We help leaders make informed decisions, and to take effective actions, to encourage and accomplish planned development of the region’s human, economic, political and natural resources.

SMPDD provides solutions that support the development potential of the 15 counties of Southern Mississippi. We are a 501 (c)(3) that capitalizes on our years of experience and excellent partnerships within the counties we serve. SMPDD has continually evolved, discovering opportunities and anticipating the trends challenging the region’s economic vitality, and help fund services needed to improve the overall quality of life in South Mississippi.

Our generated funds are constantly being placed back into programs to help our customers – governments, entrepreneurs, the elderly, the unemployed, the underemployed, the disadvantaged, the disabled and our youth – by providing information, financial support, planning and technological capacity.

Through the leadership of the local officials comprising its Board of Directors and through the synergy of its staff, SMPDD has grown to be one of the largest and most diversified regional planning entities in the United States.

As a 501(c)3 organization, SMPDD can accept donations from residents and the business community to help fund our important services. Interested in benefiting your community? Learn more below.
