The Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District Career STEP Program can help you build a bright future. We connect our participants with employers and training programs to build innovative career paths that provide competitive wages – and we remove any obstacles along that path by paying for training and supplies, securing internship opportunities, and providing a dedicated career coach. Age and income requirements apply. Career STEP is funded through TANF dollars awarded by the Mississippi Department of Human Services. Senior Community Service Employment Program
The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) fosters and promotes individual economic self-sufficiency through useful, part-time opportunities in community service assignments for unemployed, low-income people, ages 55 and older. It helps overcome barriers that create poor employment prospects, with the aim of increasing the number of older workers in both the public and private sectors. This program offers temporary job training and pays wages.
Community service assignments provide participants the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence to meet their individual career goals. GEDs and other job-related classes are provided while the participant contributes to the general welfare of a community through a specific assignment. Participants are assigned to government and non-profit agencies, based on their initial assessment and chosen career path, as well as the community needs.
