Southern Mississippi Planning & Development District’s (SMPDD) Economic Workforce Development Division provides essential services for both businesses and job seekers.
Business Services
SMPDD provides and helps fund important services to members of area business and industry to help them find, train and retain qualified workers. These services include:
Access to databases of qualified workers
Recruitment and screening of job candidates
Internet access to post job listings and review resumes
Proficiency testing for employees
Private rooms for interviews
On-the-job and customized training assistance
Information on Work Opportunity Tax Credits (WOTC)
Forms and guidance for filing a NAFTA or Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) petition
Paid internships and externships
Smart Start Credentials

Information about and referral to on-the-job training programs that reduce the cost of training new employees

Job Seeker Services
SMPDD helps fund programs and services offered through the area WIN Job Centers. These workforce development sites provide a variety of career services to those seeking employment. Available services include:
- Job search and placement assistance
- Resume preparation software
- Internet access for job searches and resume posting
- Access to office equipment: computer, fax machine, and copier
- Services for veterans
- Information on assistance for laid-off workers
- Information on unemployment insurance benefits
- Information on and referral to child care, transportation and other support services
- Referral to rehabilitation services
- Information and referral to training
- Access to free beginner computer classes
- Referral to Adult Basic Education classes
- Referral to TANF and SNAP benefits
- Labor market information

Provides easy access to many services in one convenient location
Job center staff helps create or update resumes, conduct job searches, and help individual(s) prepare for job interviews
Staff also provides job training information to become more competitive in the job market
Provides access to fax machines, copiers and computers to help with job searches
